luck after a series of bad pill draws and getting
caught up in other peoples wrecks. Despite his early
season mishaps, Brady sits sixth in both drivers and
car owners points, with first place easily in
striking distance if he can put together some solid
runs. “The car is fast, we just need some things to
go our way,” he said after the shows at I-30
Speedway in Little Rock AR in April.
You can follow Brady’s schedule online on his all
new website, www.bradybaconracing.com. At Team XXX,
we wish Brady the best of luck over the coming
stretch of races. |

Robert Ballou – TNT Champion, 9 Race Wins |
|
|
 |
|
|
The Rocklin’ Rocket, Robert
Ballou, is standing alone atop the Team XXX wins
list this year with nine feature wins, including
ASCS TNT Sprint Bandit wins and a USAC feature
triumph at the famed Eldora Speedway. Along the way,
Ballou secured the ASCS TNT Sprint Bandit season
championship.
Robert and the MPHG #81 XXX team were groundbreakers
this year for Team XXX. He secured to milestones for
XXX on May 12th at Eldora Speedway, not only
securing the first Team XXX win under USAC sanction,
but also picking up the first XXX win at Tony
Stewart’s ultra fast ˝ mile. Ballou beat the best of
the best in non-wing racing, as he outpaced Bryan
Clauson and Levi Jones while leading the race wire
to wire for the win. After sending his motors back
to noted powerplant builder Don Ott for a freshen
up, Ballou attacked the ASCS Sprint Bandit TNT
series as they resumed racing during the third week
of June. After absolutely decimating the field for
the win Friday night at Creek County Speedway in
Sapulpa OK, Ballou grabbed another win the next
night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland MO after an
epic battle with fellow Team XXX racer Brady Bacon.
Fast forwarding to late June, Ballou started a
streak of taking down the tough local Indiana
competition, with wins June 26th at Lincoln Park
Speedway and July 2nd at Gas City I-69 Speedway.
Robert again reigned supreme at Eldora Speedway in
late July, this time winning a non-sanctioned 25 lap
main event. Robert led from lap six all the way to
the checkered flag, followed to the stripe by Matt
Westfall in his XXX chassis. Robert picked up win #9
on Sprint Bandit Speedweek, taking the August 17th
feature at Missouri State Fair Speedway. The win
propelled Robert to the top of the standings for the
ASCS TNT Sprint Bandits, which he would hold through
the remainder of Speedweek.
Follow Robert on his personal website at
www.balloumotorsports.com and look for more race
wins to pile up as Robert and the MPHG #81 XXX
finish out the North American season. |

Montieth and XXX Rock the PA Posse in 2010 |
|
|
%20-%20small.jpg) |
|
|
Brian Montieth and the Premier
Auto Works #21 XXX had a banner year for Team XXX in
2010, headlined by nine feature wins including the
Tuscarora 50 and the track championship at Lincoln
Speedway.
Night in and night out, Montieth was the driver to
watch at Lincoln. Picking up four feature wins at
the track, “The Edge” brought home the first XXX
Feature win vs. the PA Posse on April 3rd. Montieth
picked up the first XXX All Star Circuit of
Champions feature win, taking home $5,000 from the
All Stars on June 12th. He also picked up the
win on August 21st at Lincoln and picked up the W on
season championship night, September 4th.
Furthering his banner season, Montieth picked up his
first and Team XXX’s first Williams Grove 410 win on
July 17th. The success at the famous ˝ mile
continued from there, as he won three more times
over a calendar month at The Grove, with triumphs
coming July 30th, August 13th and August 20th. Brian
and the Premier Auto Works #21 XXX crew will finish
out the year second in driver and owner points,
marking their best season ever at The Grove.
“The Edge” capped his year off with another major
milestone, landing his first win at Port Royal
Speedway, taking home the Tuscarora 50 after leading
most of the race. Night in and night out, Montieth
was as fast if not faster than the top dogs of the
PA Posse, totaling more wins on the season than
other major names including Rahmer, Hodnett and
Smith.
Now that the door to Central PA has been opened,
look for Montieth and his crew to build toward
bigger and better things in the years to come. Team
XXX wants to congratulate Brian, car owner Jerry
Parrish, crew chief Scott Zellers along with the
rest of the crew on their great year in 2010. |

Jimmy Brookens Overcomes Handicap to Dominate
2010 in XXX 600 and Looks Forward To An Equally
Strong 2011 |
|
|
 |
|
|
The words “not possible” have
been scratched from Jimmy Brookens personal
dictionary. The Shippensburg, PA native has overcome
many adverse situations in his 40+ years, and today,
has multiple track championships and main event wins
to show for it. In 2010 alone, Brookens had 8
feature wins and a track championship at Trail Way
Speedway, as well as winning the coveted Kevin
Gobrecht memorial in his XXX 600 mini sprint.
The Jimmy Brookens success story is made all the
more remarkable due to his physical limitations.
After spending his younger days successfully racing
motocross, Brookens was involved in a terrible crash
that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Any
driver knows how important it is to be 100%
physically fit every time you step into any race car
…making Brookens success in his next from of racing
all that much more remarkable. Jim and his brother
Randy sought out a new class of cars to compete in,
where the lower half of the drivers body was less
necessary to compete. What they found were 600 mini
sprints, and Jimmy took to the them like a fish to
water. Both brothers being mechanically minded, set
about modifying their first 600 to include throttle
and brake controls within the steering column. After
some trial and error, Brookens was back racing
again, and doing it successfully.
Coming into 2010, Brookens counted six track
championships and more feature wins that he could
possibly keep track of on his resume. But according
to Jim, it only gets harder each and every year.
“With the way things are here in Pennsylvania, more
and more quality teams keep showing up, with more
and more money behind them. It isn’t like 6 years
ago when you could go to the track and count on less
than one hand the guys who could run with you. Now,
everybody has such good equipment and there’s so
much talent in the area that it’s getting really
tough to get the win. Add in the fact that a lot of
the PA 600 tracks have added in a handicap system
that lines you up by points, and were having to come
from 10th, 11th, 12th every night to try and get to
the front” said Jimmy. Brookens, who is quick with
his quips and does not shy away from dishing out a
hard time, noted with a gleam in his eye “My team is
already handicapped enough, we don’t need the tracks
helping us out!”.
After switching to XXX 600 chassis over the
offseason, Jim began his year on fire, winning three
of his first four races. Brookens won the main event
at Path Valley Speedway on March 19th and the
feature March 21st right near home at Shippensburg
Speedway. Brookens was again in victory lane at Path
Valley on April 2nd, following that up with a win
April 17th at Trail Way Speedway. With the handicap
system setting him further and further back n each
starting field, Brookens found it harder to get to
victory lane, ripping off a string of top five runs
before winning again at Path Valley on May 28th.
Success came quickly again thereafter, with a
Shippensburg win on June 5th. From there, it was a
long stretch of battling from deep in the field, as
Brookens maintained points leads at both Path Valley
and Trail Way. The next win would be Path Valley on
September 10th , followed by securing the season
points title with a second place finish at Trail Way
the next night. Brookens finished out his Trail Way
season by winning the coveted Kevin Gobrecht
memorial at Trail Way Speedway on September 25th.
With his eight feature wins at three tracks,
Brookens will look to cap his season off with the
Path Valley championship, as he leads the point
standings there with only one race remaining.
Jimmy Brookens is a winner, both on the track and in
life. At Triple X Race Co, we’re proud to support
Jimmy and his efforts to show that no matter what
happens in life, you can overcome the odds and
accomplish your dreams. |

XXX 600 Success Continues in 2010 |
|
|
 |
|
| |
|
|
Year 3 of the XXX 600
has been about conquering new horizons and
experiencing new success stories. 17
different drivers have taken main event wins
this year in their XXX chassis for a total
of 38 race wins and 4 point championships
along the way, with one more title yet to be
decided.
|
 |
The
year started out with Team XXX driver Jimmy Brookens
announcing his presence in the PA 600 wars, winning
three of his first four race starting in late march.
As of this writing, Brookens accumulated 8 race
wins, including the coveted Kevin Gobrecht Memorial,
and a track championship at Trail Way Speedway. He
is also the points leader at Path Valley Speedway
with one race remaining on their schedule.
On
the same weekend that Brookens started his run
through PA, “Lethal” Leigh Van Ginneken finished off
his year with a race win Down Under. Running at
Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia, Van
Ginneken capped off a multiple win season by
decimating the field on the big track in his #98 XXX
chassis on March 20th. Other race winners in their
600’s during the months of March and April were DJ
Estes, Blake Jenkins, Landon Hurst and Brock
Zearfoss.
As
May got rolling, more team XXX drivers put their XXX
600 into victory lane, with Hurst kicking off the
winning month after another score at Lemoore Raceway
in California. Hurst, the eventual Stock Division
champion at Lemoore and former national ATV
competitor, won 4 times over the course of 2010,
with the highlight being a preliminary night victory
at Deming Speedway during their $5,000 to win Clay
Cup Nationals. Blake Jenkins added into the big
month of may as well, topping the ASCS 2 restrictor
division at Creek County Speedway in Oklahoma on May
21st for his third W of the year. Other may winners
included Brookens and Bobby Lynn in Illinois.
June
saw Team XXX driver Dereck King top the toughest 600
tour in the land, the Powri Micro Sprint Series,
twice in the span of 5 days. On June 11th, King
visited victory lane in Illinois as he won the Kevin
Doty Classic. Fast forward to June 16th where Dereck
again reached victory lane, taking the mid week
triumph at Fayette County Speedway in Illinois.
Other 600 drivers hit victory lane for the first
time during the month, with JR Thomas, Dan Henning,
Jamie Steward and Rick Bell picking up wins, as well
as Jimmy Brookens picking up another W.
More winners surfaced in July, with Quinton Benson
starting things off on July 10th at Sweet Springs
Motorsports Complex in Missouri. Landon Hurst scored
his prelim night win at Deming Speedway on the 16th.
Dereck King’s father Rick proved that old age and
treachery still count for something, taking a race
win in the King XXX 600 at the Southern Illinois
Raceway. Jeff Wignall capped the month off by
scoring his first career win with the Black Hills
Mini Sprint Tour in Sturgis, SD.
August
brought a mix of repeat winners and newcomers, with
Quinton Benson, Dan Henning and Landon Hurst all
hitting paydirt once again. New winners found some
speed as well, with Phillip Davis grabbing his first
career victory on August 21st in Kansas and Jacob
Patton going topless to take a feature win at Wayne
County Speedway in Illinois. Patton competed the
entire year with the Powri 600 tour, securing a 9th
place finish in the final point standings after
battling motor woes early in the year. Dereck King
and his sister Kara gave Team XXX a successful debut
in the series, finishing 3rd and 4th in the point
standings respectively.
September
was championship month, with Jimmy Brookens leading
the charge again, winning two features and securing
his first of two possible track championships at
Trail Way Speedway in PA. Landon Hurst wrapped up
his points title at Lemoore Raceway in CA, and JR
Thomas took things down to the wire, using a
championship night race win to secure his second
straight Deming Speedway 600 championship. Down
south, Blake Jenkins grabbed two more Horizon Mini
Sprint wins on his way to the track championship at
I-30 Speedway in Arkansas.
